Title: Black cherry failure
Post by: Stevens706 on May 12, 2010, 07:10:14
Has anyone else had problems germinating black cherry seeds from T&M, twice now I have sowed all the other Toms have germinated fine, same compost etc.

I thought about contacting T&M but haven't got the order number or receipt.

Has anyone got a recommendation for a good reliable black tomato, probably have to wait till next year now.

Thanks

I'd contact T and M as I would have thought having the seed packet would be enough of a guarantee, as long as it is in date.
I'm not a huge Black Cherry fan although most people rate them highly. I do like Paul Robeson, Black from Tula, Black Master, and Black Crimea, they all seem fairly easy to grow :)

If you want so send me a SAE I can pop a few different types in for you to try next year.

Black Cherry are particularly vigorous seedlings, your seed must be duff. A packet of duff seeds is always a mystery to me, what happened to them to make them so? I've had two packets of seeds from the same supplier before and got full germination of one and zero off the other despite being the same variety.

You're unlikely to need a receipt, ask for a replacement/refund.

If you bought the seeds direct from T&M, they'll be able to track down your order in their records. But I've also found T&M good about replacing the rare packet of problem stuff when I've bought it from a supplier and can't remember who it was by the time I've realised there was a problem).  ::)

Contacted T&M and they were very helpful and are replacing the packet free of charge, T&M might be costly but their customer service is excellent

I had very few seedlings germinate from my black cherry.
T&M have splendid customer service I think I've already mentioned how they replaced a packet of chilli seed that didn't germinate, and it was FREE seed in the first place  :)
