Title: Leggy toms
Post by: caroline7758 on May 11, 2010, 20:46:57
I mentioned in another thread that some of my toms are now about 2ft tall which I think is due to them being on a windowsill with light from only one side. Will this limit the amount of fruit I'll get when I can finally get them out to my greenhouse?

Low light will do that to tomato plants, but if you plant them in the soil instead of a pot, you could bury them 15cm deeper with no adverse effects.

I bury mine right up to the first leaves, if really long you  may have to lay them in a trench leaving the plant beyond the first leaves at one side, fill in the hole, the plant will right itself after a few days, you will have s strong plant as it will grow roots all along it's buried stem. It shouldn't be a problem for your yeild XX Jeannine
