Just realised that I haven,t sown my parsnip seeds ... :o ...am I too late now ? I love parsnips and wouldn,t want be without them over winter ! Debs
No you are not too late, I have only just done mine and always do them about now. There are other people on here only just sowing them too, don't worry, they soon catch up. :)
Oh! What a relief ! Thanks Tulipa .....I,m off to do it now ::) Debs
Only sowed mine yesterday
I sowed some of mine in plug cells this morning.
I will plant the remainder of the packet insitu at the end of the month!
From memory one of my packets says sowing out to July.... I'll be putting mine in the root-trainers once the sweetcorn are out.... and I haven't sown the sweetcorn yet cos there's beans in the rootrainers ATM....

thanks debs, youve just reminded me to get some a chittin!
My Dads rule of thumb is to hold off sowing parsnip seeds until the Cow Parsley comes into flower. I've followed this over the last few years with no problems. The Cow parsley came into flower around here a couple of weeks ago. I checked last night and a few of the seeds have germinated and are showing.
So, you are not too late at all.
Sowed mine a week ago. Hope they will germinate soon despite this cold weather.
Like everybody else has said, sowing now is good. And usually much more successful than sowing earlier because the soil is warmer (usually!) and they germinate faster without gaps.
I sowed mine about a month ago and only 3 came up!!!
Had to put a fresh sowing in last weekend!
