Oh..I love home made popcorn with a bit of salt..
So after searching trough catalogues and web sites for seed..how disappointing...you have hardly any choice..3 or 4 varieties.. :(...so....I dug into kitchen draw and got some poppin corn out..put some in dish with little water and in propagator... ;) we shall see how it turns out... ::)
good luck... I suppose it depends how old it was when you got it... :-\
Yes..all luck is needed.. :-\..but one can only try..and if not this year then I have plenty of time to search a supply for next..If I could get my hands on to some of those varieties in America...They really have some choice..
As to age of my current supply.. ::)oh well.. ::)..they still do pop well though.. ;D ::)
Tell me which US ones do you want I can get them for you in Canada, takes too long from the Us to me and I will send yo a packet over, you still have tim. There are several but my suggestion would be Pink Popcorn as it is a short season varietyXX Jeannine
Jeannine you are angel..but I shall not bother you for now..thank you for your kind offer ;)....actually I'm finding quite interesting to have this little trial of mine..and like I said I'll have plenty of time this year to search some...
I just received PM for offer some seeds..Blue Hopi..as for popcorn..funnily enough I do grow these..first time this year..I just didn't know that they could be popped ;D..so at least I have a start.. ;D
ROOOBEEERRRTT!!!...you send me those Blue Hopi's...can I pop them?
Blue Hopi is a popping corn, I've got loads if you want some.
chrisc
Oh Chrisc...it was you who sent some of them.. ;D...sorry Robert... ::)
Have a look at these amazing corn varieties...http://www.tradewindsfruit.com/corn_seeds.htm (http://www.tradewindsfruit.com/corn_seeds.htm)
They state is only a flour and eating variety...?...anyway..salivating pictures... ;D
mmm, don't forget that most have them have a growing season that is too long for the Uk though XX Jeannine
I have just performed a scientific experiment... ::)..that involves a pan, oil and left over blue hopi's...and I can report the results as...non-poppers... :-\
I thought that popping corn cannot be wrinkly sort anyway...
So now we know...and they are truly cooked.. ::)...back to the drawing board...
Yes Jeannine..but could I get away by growing some in GH or tunnel...? If I were to start early in heated GH..dozen or so..tranplant into bigger pots as they grow..and in summer drop in to ground...?
scietific blue hopi experiment no2.....those "roasted" seeds are on tissue and to get exess oil off..salted and I'm eating them... ;D..cheers.Chrisc.. ;D ..they did not pop but are perfectly edible..not rock hard bullets like unpopped popcorn that will break your fillings..these are actually quite nice... ;D
Hmm.... I thought they were popping corn...... I'll have a go when I get home.... must say I've eaten quite a lot just raw.....
chrisc
Try Premier Seeds - they trade on Ebay. I got my Blue Hopi and Strawberry seed from them. From what I remember they stock several varieties.
I bought some blue popcorn today from kokopelli..and for my suprise...this afternoon I had loads of just germinated popping corn in my propagator... ::)
..so now I have dozen potted up..going to do another dozen tomorrow...and seeds on its way in postie... ::)well if my popping corn have survived live in kitchen draw for err..few years ::)..I'm sure that the new seeds will wait till next year... ;D Oh dear..waiting for the bus..and dozen arrives.....

Hmm... if they're not Pop maybe their Easy Listening... or Ambient or Country and Western.... howabout jazzcorn?
chrisc
Yes, I would have ago in a poly, just be prepared to help with the polliation though, they are usually wind pollinated, no wind in a poly..unless you can rig a fan. Good Luck, some of them are truly great XX Jeannine
