Have found this site:
http://www.europotato.org/
(Not sure if it has been listed here before.)
This lists 1,000's or varieties and their characteristics such as yield, disease resistance, eating type, foliage etc. Could be a very useful addition to you favourites if you grow spuds.

My hackles were up at the thought of another Euro-something. Much relieved to see that Edinburgh's in charge!! = Tim
It's run by SASA (Scottish Agricultural Science Agency) as our regional contribution to the worldwide collection of potato repositories (they stockplant material as well for use by researchers and potato variety raisers)
Nowt to do with the EU at all Tim!!
It does take a while to trawl through as is just an alphabetical list.
If you're looking for a modern variety, try the BPC's Variety Datbase at http://www.potato.org.uk/seedSearch.asp?sec=446&con=458 (http://www.potato.org.uk/seedSearch.asp?sec=446&con=458)
You can just put in characteristrics and look at ~130 varieties (including pictures!)
Well, how about that then?? = Tim
Tim,
I presume by your apparent profession of wonder that "they had nowt like that when you were a lad" ;)
