Wow - stunning. People always think butterflies are the pretty ones but just goes to show that there are some beautiful moths out there too. I've never seen any, right enough - maybe they don't venture as far north as Glasgow?

I've not seen that one Tony, it's great.  All the hawk moths are impressive.  When I worked at Tescos we'd get the odd privet hawk moth come in on the cut flowers and I'd follow it round the shop till I could get hold of it and take it safely outside.  And the hummingbird hawk moths are just like little hummingbirds - we get those in the garden.  And the caterpillar of the elephant hawk moth is just so impressive, I found one when I was 10 and am still impressed.
