Have just got computer 'hooked up' again after moving house or rather flat a week ago yesterday.....am thrilled to bits with it and the extra space but wow....am I feeling stressed out!.....
I've just moved into a totally new block of flats (45 in all) and gradually people are moving in at the rate of 2/3 per day.....
Day after arriving, early in the morning, I had a flooded bathroom (outlet in floor of shower - which is in one corner of bathroom and just gently slopes away so water should run away.....was blocked and before I realised what was happening, I was ankle deep in water and when I peeped behind shower curtain it had extended over entire floor area and seeped under wooden 'treads' into bedroom (bathroom is en-suite) and into hallway!! >:(
Next, I drenched myself when turning on hot & cold water taps under sink (for w/machine) before I realised new machine was a cold water fill only - no 'plug' on end of hot water tap!!
Yesterday one of my double glazed windows wouldn't shut and now my toilet can't be used!!.....blocked somewhere.....wash hand baisin not draining properly either - water plops up & down like a geyser!!
The new bed I ordered came 3/4 days ago and I'd arranged for one of my sons & a friend to 'put it together' for me....it's one of those with a wrought iron head and foot frame so thought I'd help them in advance and get it unpacked....gosh it was soooo heavy and after spending absolutely ages on getting it out of the vast amount of cardboard packing, then the corrugated paper around everything plus the polythene around the divided slatted base....to my absolute annoyance and disappointment...found the screws were all missing so it couldn't be done anyway!!
But am I downhearted.....no, no and no....stressed definitely yes but have been 'calmed down' by one of my sons & his wife (she kindly came round today to help me hang some curtains, which is a neck-aching job.
Also needed a treatment from the osteopath - hurt my back some 6 weeks or so ago but have been putting if off until I'd done the move....but as I could hardly creep around 5 days ago, had to go....it's improved but as I keep lugging things around, will need another next week.....
I daren't even think about my poor allotment - feel so guilty at neglecting it but next week, will be off to look after Mum again for another week.....
Sorry this is so long - but you can see I've every reason to feel a bit stressed....just wanted to share it with everyone ::) ???
Ahh! You poor thing Hot Potato, you have every reason to feel stressed. Why is it when one thing goes wrong there seems a whole avalanche of similar disasters to cope with - some wonky law of nature do you think?
Look at it this way, things can only get better from now on. You will settle in, your toilet will work, your bed will get screws, and you will be happy and calm and organised in your lovely new Flat long before Christmas. In a short while you will be looking back on these events and having a good titter.
Why not take a walk up to the allotment for a short time, not to do any work, just to take a few deep breaths and soak up the quiet to get things back in perspective again. A cyper hug coming your way. Things will get better! :) busy_lizzie
sounds like one of 'those' weeks. my sympathies, especially around the flooding! i hope you have it sorted now, if it's a new building can you have the builders back in to fix it?
spend some time doing what you want, if it's going to the allotment. all your boxes will wait. especially if you are away next week. :)

Oh guys - thanks for all the encouraging messages - things have improved a lot - as the song says 'what a difference a day makes'......loo problem seems to have been caused by a jammed valve in the boxed in area where the soil pipes are enclosed (they're stacked cos I'm on the ground floor of a 3 floor building) plumber just removed a plastic plate from the wall and put it right (I hope) seems to be ok so far!!
I did after all take myself off up to the allotment this afternoon - hadn't been for weeks - still had a row of potatoes to dig up ??? -most of them look ok in spite of the frost we've had a couple of nights....they're now in a bucket in boot of car - will sort thru them when I've more time. Also dug loads of carrots, just beginning to get eaten in one or two places but I don't waste things so can cut those bits out...my d.i.l. loves the carrots too so she's going to have some also...and....and....I dug my first leeks today - they're enormous - look wonderful and can't wait to try them - No. 2 son and same d.i.l. will enjoy a couple of these too.
To my delight, also picked a good feed of spinach - it looks good, nice shiny leaves so assume it will be ok.
Also heard today that the bolts have arrived in store for the bed so I'll pick them up tomorrow....things are looking up Oz:)
Thanks B.L. for the cyber-hug - needed that.
Oh Windy - can just imagine how 'cramped' you must all be feeling - no thanks, don't think I'll swap - went thru something very similar many years ago when I had my first baby....moved in with my Mum & Dad for a while (as I was poorly) and the cat etc. came too!!
