Title: mange tout and peas going bonkers
Post by: Le-y on May 05, 2010, 10:34:05
so i've got some mange tout and kelvenden wonders(i think thats correct) in house at the moment, they lived inside during our recent house move.

the mange tout are just under a ft tall and flowering the peas slightly less and no flowers yet (though i have more in an earlier stage)

can i plant them out now? will they die in frost? can i plant out then cloche them or should i be keeping them inside for a while longer?

same with french and runner beans, not got any on the go yet so can i plant direct now or wait?

You should have planted them out a couple of weeks ago from the sound of it! Peas are basically hardy, but the modern wrinkle-seeded type tend to rot rather than germinating, and they need warm soil. That's their only point of non-hardiness; once they've germinated they're fine.
