Title: Superweeds?
Post by: InfraDig on May 04, 2010, 08:38:20
Rise of the Superweeds
By WILLIAM NEUMAN  and ANDREW POLLACK
American farmers' heavy use of the weedkiller Roundup has
led to the rapid growth of herbicide-resistant weeds that
could lead to higher food prices and more pollution.

I never was happy about the use of weedkillers and genetically modified crops.  Seems nature has its own way of getting its own back. if the scientists can modify plants to become resistant to weedkillers it was obvious that nature could also do the same trick and it would seem it can do it quicker.

I have researched the roundup issue on the internet and have struggled to find in depth studies into it's use. these global chemical, drug and oil companies rule the world. i think the public are deluding themselves in thinking it safe and a healthy distrust of these companies is required. I've read about links to non hodgkins lymphoma, cancer in the livers of lab mice and danger to aquatic life. more research is needed and not by the chemical companies.  it's like chemical warfare on our allotments and i'm saddened by it, but i won't get started on that one.
