Post by: landimad on May 03, 2010, 05:32:05
Just wondering if those who have had their comfrey bits, whether they are coming on ok?
I would like to know if they have arrived alright and whther they have put on much growth yet?
Let us all see with photo's as to what they look like at the moment.

i Potted most of mine up (it was easiest at the time), and it's all doing very well, however, I plan to plant it all out quite soon. The roots without shoots were put in the ground and i've not yet checked them but I hope it spreads like crazy as i'd like some free plant food by the end of the season and certainly for next year.

I had some this time last year from Tonybloke & had 3 lots of leaves to put in the composter. I put them in pots to begin with.

Neil, give it chance as the weather has not been kind to us gardeners.

Nice to here newbie1963.

Dirty Digger, I should think that it will not spread as you want, but it will divide in due course.

Janet, as always you take and you give always the best to talk with on matters of a delicate nature.

Caroline, I had two crops from mine after putting them in a couple of years back and they have just keep coming back for more. I think it helped putting plenty of organics in before I planted them.

Lets see if there are any others with stories to tell of this wonder feeder to the gardener and allotmentier. :)

I split my 3 into 6 and the one with shoots on originally is the only one growing so far-have kept them in pots in the cold frame so am still hoping...

Hi there

I cut my roots up into six pieces and potted into seed trays.  One (the main one) has sprouted some good roots but no life yet from the others.  I live in hope.  I however had a good bonus when I was lifting the last of the parsnips that I could not in early January (as I had a broken leg) and found some really healthy self seeded comfry.  So have potted them up into pots for planting out later in the year.  I am hoping to plant them close to the compost heaps for easy access.

Kind regards

Jitterbug

With this warm weather of late we have been having, it should have helped some of the cuttings into life.

Mine's growing like mad as always. Contrary to reports, it's never spread, but I don't think I could ever get rid of the stuff! There's an unlettable plot at the other end of the site which is covered with it, so I use that for liquid manure.

I do the same with my sister-in-laws plot as she doesn't use it at all. The kids go over there for an hour and come back with loads of it.

My comfrey is currently wilting in the heat, but no doubt it'll soon pick up again!

Hi there,

Got two lovely plants from the three pieces you sent me and will plant them within the next week or so health permitting. Thanks for your generosity and I will try to get a picture to post here too
