Hi, I can't find any info regarding how long artichokes take to appear above the ground, so was hoping someone here could let me know. Thanks, M.
When did you plant yours?
Mine went in 7th March and no sign of them yet.
Mine are only just starting to show...and those are not newly planted..so no hurry...they will come up ;)
Reputed to be impossible to get rid of so I wouldnt worry too much ;D
That was until they met me. I never saw hide nor hair of the ones I put in last year.
They're not hard to get rid of. Dig out what you can, wait till the survivors start to come up, and dig them up individually.
Can't remember when I planted them. Sometime in March I guess. I may have a furtle out of curiosity and see if there is any sign of life. I'm running out of space already so may pull a row or two. I planted them as a wind break believe it or not! :P
They take their time and come up once the soil has warmed up. Mine aren't up either.
Mine are just poking through now and I planted mine around 10th March ;D
My common & fuseau started appearing a few days ago no sign of the chinese yet. They generally don't put in an appearance round here until mid to late May so if anything they are early this year.
Thanks for this thread. I was about to give up on mine but now I'll give them another month to show.
I put mine in on March 13th and they are just starting to appear!
I'm a bit disappointed that the people who took over the other half of my plot have dug up all the JA's and put potatoes there instead. Never offered me any either! And before anyone offers me any, thanks for the thought but I doubt I'll have room for them on my half plot, but I might request some next winter if I have!
Mine are showing now--as well as those I missed when I moved them
They'll be through soon, they're indestructible. I've just been digging part of my Jerusalem patch to get the ground elder out. They're coming along merrily.
Noticed today that my neighbours have got shoots of JA growing up through their rows of spuds- obviously didn't get them all out!
Hi I havent grown jerusalem artichokes before but was wondering is it too late to put some into clay soil?
Thanks
Just bung some in.... don't say you weren't warned though.... :-X
Thanks saddad I will pop them in & see what happens ;)
Even if I decide I dont like to eat them I am hoping to use them as windbreaks for other plants
Windbreak they most definitely are LOL ;D
I left quite a few in last year and dug them up to move them yesterday. Some had small green shoots, some had white ones and the remainder weren't shooting at all yet.
