Just trying to work out how many peas and beans to sow, by how much space they need. What are the planting distances for:
Dwarf sugar snap peas
Dwarf french beans
Climbing french beans
(I got them in a swap, so don't have the proper packages!)
Peas about 2-3" apart..
French beans about 10" apart...
Some grow a bit closer some a bit more apart ;)
But if you have plenty of seed....sow more than you actually need..not all come through...you might have accident so you'll need spare....
Those distances are just as idea..often with climbers you can squeeze bit more together and they will spread about as they grow ...
cor I didn't realise peas could grow that close together! great! I can grow more than I thought!
Will definitely sow more than I need - I always do (6 courgettes and 5 squashes this year - I probably have room for 2 of each!) And if I get spares of the dwarf ones I can put them in big pots.
i would plant them all 3 inches apart
This is how I sow my first batch of peas; http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Data/Peas/Peas/peas.html (http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Data/Peas/Peas/peas.html)
I find two trayful fills an eight foot row.
As I plant out the first batch I sow another batch directly into the ground wher the seeds are ablout 1" apart( I don't measure I just scatter in the trench)
and it is simple as that.
Peas can go even closer together, some even grow them 1" apart all ways. Or even so densely in a trench that the seed were touching one another.
I plant peas a dozen to a three-inch pot, then plant out the potfuls, six inches to a foot apart depending how many I have round a wigwam.
