Title: 'Tumbler' tomatoes
Post by: gp.girl on April 30, 2010, 17:04:48
On the label it says to 'take out the side shoots to encourage bushy growth' but this is a hanging basket/bush variety, surely the idea is to leave the side shoots on?

One of the plants already seems to have lost the top growing point!

I confess I never pinch out the sideshoots on Tumbler toms and get great crops, so I would be tempted to leave well alone.... ;D

I've never bothered to do any pinching out with tumblers - but of course, knowing me, I could well have got that one wrong  ::)

Never prune a Tumbler.. I grow just two every year..except this year  I am also growing  a dehybridised version of Tumbler so I can keep seeds next year..Tumbler seeds are a ridiculous cost so I was very plesed to find the new seed.

I think I've got the same one Jeannine, from Tatania? I planted 53 tomato seeds thinking that they wouldn't all germinate. Oops 49 so far.

They're not all the same Jeannine. Twenty for baskets, 4 different types. Plenty to give away ;). I can get a couple of baskets in the chicken run on the support posts. Do you think they are best 1 to a basket?
