Title: tomato and spring onion
Post by: themantowin on April 27, 2010, 07:59:40
I have some spare space in my tomato grow bags with only putting two tomato plants in them and was thinking of putting spring onions in the middle space of each.

•   Is it safe to grow spring onions in with tomato's
•   Will the liquid tomato feed affect the spring onions in any way

Thank you for your time and any help and information on this subject.

I would think you could grow any manner of things in that space - lettuce, rocket, basil, or what about a nice French marigold to keep nasties away?

And when the toms are done, lots of people re-use the grow bags for cut and come again salad leaves - ok, that's thinking ahead a bit but why not bleed the grow bags for all they will give? I'm new to this myself, so consult those much wiser than me, but that's what I've been told.

if you fancy some herbs like parsley and basil you could pop some in with the tommies  :) but I don't see why spring onions wouldn't work

And welcome to A4A themantowin  - loads of great advice on here  :)

With all the feed they'll be getting in the grow bags, be prepared for some pretty big spring onions. A couple of years ago, I put some sp. onions at the back of a big flower trough and they grew huge  :D
