Title: A year at Kew
Post by: Mrs Ava on November 19, 2004, 22:45:48
Don't know if any of you have been following this series watching a year in the life of Kew Gardens, narrated by Alan Ti thcmarsh, but I have and I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed it.  I think I have enjoyed watching the tree gang at work the most.  Wouldn't fancy it myself, bit squiffy at heights, but the passion these men have for their trees is....well...good for the soul!  Also have been interested watching the seed gatherers going off around the world hunting down seeds to be stored in the vaults so that, fingers crossed, no plant should ever become extinct again!  When I was a child I always fancied myself as a seed/plant hunter, going into the depths of the rain forrest or out onto arid plains looking for ellusive plants, never before seen.  So, if anyone wants to buy me a Chrissy pressy, there is a book to accompany the series!  ;) ;D

Yes EJ, I really enjoyed it. That's the nice thing of living in Holland, we get t.v. channels from all over the place on cable, of course knowing different languages helps with that too.
What a jewel that place is, magnificent.

When I visited Kew Gardens a couple of years ago, at the end of the day it felt like we had the place all to ourselves. So much wildlife came out of hiding, it was fantastic. When we were ready to leave, the gate was opened for us by a policeman to let us through, he told us the gardens had been closed about an hour and a half ago. We actually did have the place to ourselves hahaha.

hi ej must say i cant wait to get home from work on a friday to see it , i liked the part also where they go off hunting out the rare seeds, thought the part about the girl keeping check over the large lily in the indoor pond and her waiting for it to flower . although that was in an earlier episode , think she was trying to pollinate it or something like that, it was good too ..........jolly good show. ;)

Daughter and I went to Kew earlier in the year (you may remember I put some photos of the birds in the Gallery).  Wonderful place, but spoilt for us that day as it absolutely p****d down with rain most of the day.  It was great therefore to see the place in all it's glory in the programme.  I also enjoyed the work on the trees and the seed collecting, fascinating.
