Title: red cabbage

Ive been kindly given some of these , which i haven't grown before

any advice please on growing them on and what to do with them once cooked ?

You grow them same way as you would normal/white cabbage....and you do not have to cook them, lovely in mixed salad...or on it's own, just cut very finely or even grated...
I normally just grate and mix with peeled and chopped up orange..refreshing and fruity...lovely with something heavier like stewed steak..yum...
It often used in christmas dishes....as cooked and spiced side dish..

once cook them it is usually standard to eat them.

Hi, I use them in coleslaws - raw. But for cooking you can cook them up with some cooking apples, red wine vinegar and brown sugar - great as a winter warmer side dish  :)

'don't like it cooked -all that apple and raisins stuff- yuk but we LOVE it in coleslaw,red cabbage carrot, celery,onion. apple,walnuts and yes raisins(not cooked though )in a dressing of nat yoghurt,dijon mustard lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil (courtesy of J. Oliver esq.) :)

Oh...we used to have grated red cabbage with raisins in school...again..and again...maybe another day again..although we did eat it and liked it..but it was served tad too often.. ::) So even now..err..(cough)...couple of years afterwards my measure is still full ;D
