...unless it is sitting in aeroplane gargo because of the ash... >:(
..sorry folks..did you get exited when you saw mail on this post... :-[
Can't wait. I grew some heritage seeds just for seed saving last year - so hopefully can wing some back to you in Canada. :)

I should think that's highly likely. Given the weather at the moment, the situation's unlikely to change for a bit.
Oh eck, is it really likely to be stuck a long time..I have to be truthful, the press here is not saying much about the ash.I really don't know much about it at all, when it started etc.
I do hope you are all OK over there.
XX Jeann8ine
We've got the jet stream blowing it straight down from Iceland for this week, and the disruption's getting major. the airlines are getting desperate to persuade the government to allow them to fly before they all go bankrupt, and they're now talking about using the navy to bring people back. Maybe we should take it as a warning, since mass air travel's an unsustainable luxury anyway.
I saw an amazing stat on Times online
"The grounding of 63,000 flights over the past four days has saved 1.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, more than the annual emissions of many developing countries."
Frightening - I do what I can to recycle, grow my own, insulate to cut my carbon footprint, just shows you how meaningless this is against travel emissions.
Wow, and how long do they think this ill last XX Jeannine
..oh...who knows.. ::) At the moment things are in stand still and the situation is reviewed for few days at the time..
Postie should start moving again... ;D...any news yet?
The jet stream should be shifting over the next couple of days, bringing us warmer weather and sending the ash to Scandinavia.
Hi, I got a delivery from FedEx yesterday, from within Canada but on the tracking site was a note saying they were not accepting special items.eg that needed quick delievery or cold storage, this had been on all last week too and they said they had a huge back log within Canada,I suspect Canada post is much worse so I imagine the parcel is stranded somewhere here or there, it left here actually Saturday before last.. I gave it a head start before telling you !! I guess there must be a huge pile of mail backed up..at least in our favour it stands less chance of being stopped by customs. So I guess patience is the order of the day. XX Jeannine
oh dear...patience..totally foreign word for me ::)
pop me on the next swap you do Jeannine hope your keeping well :)
???anything??????
No..I think Jayb would post as soon as it arrived, I am trying real hard not to worry as it always seems to take longer going this way,, never ever lost anything yet from here so with all the backlog there was both at this end and yours I guess we could have expected it. :)
XX Jeannine
Bump!
I am starting to get just a tad concerned now, has anyone heard anything about backlogs for mail XX Jeannine
Nope..nothing..it is all elections here now..
If it helps i have a friend who was waiting for a dress to be delivered from the US and its been delayed the message given by the site was that there is a massive delay in post due to the lack of flights during the volcano problem and that priority is being given to food and medical supplies and everything else has to wait. Perhapse your package is just caught up in that lot?
Breathing a big sigh !! Thank you XX Jeannine
Jeannine, I know I said I wasn't going to read this thread but I was starting to have a little :o
But now I'm thinking your parcel left roughly on the 12th, going on previous Canada to uk parcels, which have taken two to two and a half weeks. Takes us up to the end of last week
Add in volcano time,

I'm now thinking the parcel could only be due, at the very earliest, this week onwards ;D
Plus a Bank Holiday...
Puts it at end of this week into next, ahh I was expecting it a week or so early!
Not late at all ;D
O goodie, I was starting to feel very negative, you have lifted me back up Thank you
I had an email from the company back East who were withholding shipping the Passamaquaddies till the Eastern frost was gone,, anyway they are in the post now to me so we will go through it all over again when I mail these over.. Stay sane!!
XX Jeannine
Jeannine - what are passamaquaddies please? All I can find by googling is that they are/were some Indian tribe or something. It's such a lovely word - so if it's something to grow I'd like to have a go!!
Tricia
Wasn't Passamaquaddy the town in the Disney film 'Pete's Dragon'?
???
Yes, it was the town in Pete's Dragon..and yes you are right about the Indian tribes. They are Jerusalem Artichokes..purple ones..from the area that the Indians lived.I have bought some from a firm in PEI,,chatting to Jayb about it, meant to send her an update and answered here without thinking...dong!!XX Jeannine
PS They are coming from Hope seeds if anyone wants to read about them but they don't ship tubers to the UK.

Tricia
I think it is a super word/name too, just a lovely sound to it :)
Jeannine, from your other post it mentions you will send addresses separately. Just wondering if they have been sent yet?, it might be a guide to how long the post is taking, although I think a letter gets through quicker than a parcel?
Yes I had mixed feelings about this.. I didn't want to put addies in the parcel, then I thought I would send them all to you , then decided I would just put them on the forum as PM's as needed. possibly to save me having to type them all !! What do you think is best.?
A relative of Johns came yesterday from Scotland, she hadn't received a parcel sent out to her from here that was posted 4 days before mine ,same post office too so there are still things stuck out there.
Wish the blooming thing wouls surface.
XX Jeannine
I might be a bit previous but I think pm's as needed will be fine, it may well help with keeping track of where it is. I had thought when it arrives I would send it on recorded, so it will be traceable and won't cost much more. Another thought and might mean a little more work for you but before pm'ing an address, pm the next recipient first to check they are not on holiday or similar.
I suspect parcels posted earlier will take longer than parcels posted later, if that makes sense. Because they will have been put to one side so to speak, until they knew what to do with them, while later postings will have had a clearer route through.
Yes reassuring to hear of other parcel delays first hand, especially as its from family.
It will arrive in time, keep up those positive vibes ;D just hope my postie can cope with all the attention!
I think the above sounds very workable, especially if someone is on holiday a re-route would make sense.
One of my mates is still stuck abroad gradually working her way back via Korea and Paris so I do not think we should worry just yet
although if a Canadian customs team win at Chelsea for their fabulous Veg garden we will know why!
My swaps are on stand by.
I have to be honest and and say I wish to goodness it was there, the tension is getting to me.XX Jeannine
The Passamaquaddies haven't arrived and they have been posted internaly now..hqas to be 10 days.
Passamaquaddies have finally arrived, took ages to cross Canada, but I am really beginning to think something is amiss with the parcel, even allowing for hold ups surely it should be there by now, it went airmail...feeling very deflated and concerned. :-\
XX Jeannine
I am a little concerned too, but I still think there is a good chance your parcel will arrive. Airports and flights have continued to be effected/closed for periods because of the volcano. Canadian post is also incredibly slow.
From your previous posts it seems Passamaquaddies have taken about a fortnight to arrive with internal mail so definitely still hope for international :)
I hope so, but I can't shake that feeling now..I feel ........oohh I don't know what I feel, just not very good, rotten volcano. XX Jeannine
Lots of postitive thoughts and vibes needed ;D
It will get here :)
Any day now!
Oh..definitely ;D..I'm preparing the seed compost already... ;)
Sorry to ping this - but looked everyday for an update. Any news yet?
Just that the eruption seems to be over, so hopefully things will be getting back to normal once they clear the backlog. Dunno how long that's going to take though.
I'm afraid it has not arrived yet :'(
For weeks now, as soon as I hear the post van I'm on my way to check the post box, trouble is I'm sure my postie was starting to think I might fancy him :o so I wait till he leaves now ;D
As you know we are still waiting for Jeannine's fabbie parcel to surface. Since there is no way to know when or I suppose if it will appear, we thought we could start with the swap bit of Jeannine's parcel. I know it is a bit backwards and disappointing for all involved. But I feel Jeannine has put in an enormous amount of time, effort and expense, it seems a shame for it to just stop.
Jeannine has put in some fantastic tomato seeds I've been babysitting for her and I've added in a selection of different things I hope will be of interest to get it started. When the Canadian parcel arrives I will forward it on to whoever has the parcel and post out to those who have already had their turn.
I'm hoping to post Jeannine's ½ parcel later this week ;D

Hard to post here now,, but I think it is lost, surely it would have arrived by now.. thank you Jay for taking this over, really sad, I was so happy to send this to you all too..gutted. What more can I say.
XX Jeannine
Well..it is not your fault..somebody above must have put all the breaks on to prevent anything going against the law.. ::)
What can one do against volcanos..wind directions..custom officers.. ::)..maybe this time next year Jayb will report about fat, mystery parcel that turned up on her doorstep... ;D ;)
Jeannine, don't despair! I received a B'day card from BC this morning; it was posted three and a half months ago. :o (My birthday is the first week of March. ;) )
The card was battered, but the labels were clear, as was the post-mark screaming that it was posted Feb 17th.
Sorry for this extra delay, I've been unable to get out this last week. But.....
Jeannine's stand-in parcel is all ready to go and I'll be off to the postie this afternoon, first stop is Star.
Its going recorded so at least this part will be traceable and I'll post the tracking number later. If possible can everyone send it recorded and pop the number on here, it doesn't cost much extra and will keep the journey visible.
I hope I've added enough to interest the first few people, I've tried to add lots of bits and bobs to get it started and I'm sure it will grow as it progresses.
Jeannine's list of runners; if you haven't been on line recently it will skip you by. Let me know when you have received the parcel and I'll pm you the next address.

From Jeannine's instructions 'Enclosed is a jiffy bag for specials. eg if you want to send something to anyone on the list put it in this bag and mark in clearly who it is for and NOT FOR SWAP.' I've added a bag
Jeannine I'm very happy to continue to caretake for as long as you want me to, but please step in any time you fancy ;D
My biggest hope is the original packet arrives; my second is we can get this all the way around and home to you with some lovely surprises for everyone involved :)

I have to say I'm loving your list Julie ;D
Here's to a good swap, pinch of this pinch of that, Happy Swapping everyone ;D
YEAAHH!.. ;D ;D ;D...action time.. ;D ;D
glad to see this is back on track :)
...I've just spent happy hour and half rummaging trough "the box"..and while enjoying rainy day and doing little parcels with goodies ..I can announce that I have bagged 28 little bundles of all sorts of seeds...nooo..not telling what.. ;)
Ohh..caan't wait now....are we there yet...I feel like a kid again.. ;D ::)
hmm..maybe few more packets..I shall go through "the box no2"... ;) ;D ;D ;D
Sorry, I am unfortunately not involved in this swap & I haven't been keeping up to date with it. Did this swap go astray on its way from Canada or on it's way round the UK. The reason I ask is because I sent a seed parcel in January to my friend in Portugal & we were both gutted when it hadn't arrived. I went to stay with her 13-20th May & when I phoned her to say I was home safely she said the seed parcel had arrived that day. Strange but true ::).
AWOL on its way here :'(
But fingers crossed for an ending like yours Grannyjanny and Sholls :) it certainly gives hope :)
I can certainly think of one very happy bunny in Canada when it does get here ;D
Nearly there Goodlife ;D
Jayb..do you think postie man will mind doing his round with wheelbarrow..as I'm afraid "the box no2" is yielding few packets more for the collection.. ;)..I'll try to keep 'everyday' basics out as I'm sure we all have plenty of those....or not?
Thank you JayB, I am glad a parcel is starting off, Granny it got lost enroute after the fog thingy, I did however post 2 other parcels and several fat letters to various folks 2 weeks ago and with the exception of one they have all arived in the UK, so a wee bit of me is still hopeful. I think I am going to raid my seed stash and send more over now, they won't be the same as the ones I bought for the swap but at least it will bump the parcela bit bigger.
XX Jeannine
Will post again as soon as it is off.
And there is always one isn't there? It's me -I do not want to cause a delay but I am off overseas Friday for two weeks so would it be possible to go further down the list and I promise to bring back extra seeds to add ,sorry to be a pain.
Sorry I'm going to have to pull out of this now. Too much going on in my life and can't guarantee where I'll be! So sorry.
Sorry to hear that. I'm going to keep the seed for next year now; couldn't you do the same? At least it's progress!
Parcel is on its way. I had a bit of a dither and unpacked it all to check and now I see the things that have fallen on the floor! Still the envelope seemed quite full :P
Postage was £3.35 and recorded £0.74.
Tracking no DH843616692GB
Goodlife, I've no idea how the parcel will grow as it makes its way around. I've added something which bulks it out a bit but hope it will be ok with everyone. I also added 2 small bags with tubers which should go down in size. Perhaps add what you are happy to :)
Jeannine you never cease to amaze me :o ;D Full respect.
Thanks for letting us know, I'm sure it will be ok to move you. Let us know when you are back and hope you have a great holiday.
Grawrc, I'm sorry to hear you need to pull out :( again thanks for telling us.
2nd Parcel left here 2 hours ago, with tracking. 4 days delivery.
Watch it's progress at Xpress International Canada, tracking number EE 124 912 628 CA
Not sure what Jay is going to do when it gets there, it is a bit big, but short of acts of God or confiscation it should be ther soon.
XX Jeannine
;D
Just pm'd you
What about a recall and restart ;D
What a star you both are ;D
Now I'm laughing out loud ;D
;D
Good idea.. in haste XX Jeannine
PS I did manage to get out and pick up some more to replace some of the missing seeds in it so it isn't bad at all.

Sorry to hear that. I'm going to keep the seed for next year now; couldn't you do the same? At least it's progress!
It's just that I'm horrendously busy now till well into August and rarely at home so wouldn't be about to pick up the parcel and also wouldn't have time to do it justice or send it on. I wouldn't want to be responsible for another hiccup!
Anyway, at the risk of causing dismay and consternation, I really have more seeds than I know what to do with already! :o :o :o :o :o ;D :P
No probs Anne, I had a back up person XX jeannine
Parcel picked up this morning from the PO. I missed the postie yesterday.........I will have a really good rummage this evening when its peaceful and get it sent on tomorrow as soon as I hear from you Jayb with a forwarding address.
Please ignore my pm hun....Ive embarrassed myself. A lot has been going on lately and I have not been here as often as I used to be. Fear not! I will not let the swop down...... :D ;)
Yayyyyyyyy ;D ;D ;D
I've just replied to your pm hope I make sense ;D
Parcel has lifted off from Canada and should be touching down in the UK as we speak..yes ;D ;D XX Jeannine
;D I'm watching and have fingers very much crossed ;D
Hey all, just checked tracking again.... yes!! it has touched down in the UK.
So what to do as Jayb's stand in parcel that has already been received by Star.. well we have options and I have pondered them all. I think the thing I would like to happen is that Star, if you wouldn't mind, would you return it untouched to Jayb, I feel sure there would be too many duplicates if we put the two parcels together en route which would add to the postage more than need be. If you could send it back to her as is, we can then start again. After Jayb has had a pick from my stuff, she can add what she wants, remove any duplicates and send it back to Star to start the whole thing off complete.
Star it would involve you posting it back to JayB, then on to the next person when you get it back again which for you would be double postage but I am addressing an enveleope to you as we speak to cover that for you which has UK first class stamps in. I think there should be enough to cover the cost to JayB.
Hope everyone is in agreement and I appreciate your patience Star.
A real big hand to JayB too..you too are a Star.
The parcel can travel on it's way as we originally posted and I will give out the addresses as we go along...
Jokes might be good at this point.
So done deal?? Will PM Jayb now.
XX Jeannine

Its a fabulous parcel, thank you Jayb for doing the UK side and your lovely seeds, and many thanks Jeanine for your great seeds too. You are always so generous with them and the information to go with them. ;D
Its been a pleasant distraction from ongoing events here ;) :-*
Closing this post and starting a new one. there are some changes due to drop outs and with holidays being around now the list will not be gping in the order it was originally was arranged. So best to start over.
Post is called....PROGRESS POST for Jeannine's and Jayb's Canadia/swap swap parcel
