Title: what nibbled on my broad bean leaf?
Post by: Le-y on April 06, 2010, 22:11:30
went to the plot today, i've got 5 broadbeans planted, two of which have had something take a bite from a leaf. just one of the leaves on each plant mind!

not a little bite, looks like i've had a chomp on it (which i haven't i assure you!)

should i have netted them?

I put a 2 pint milk bottle cloche over the seeds to keep the mice off them. I looked at my first row tosay and the plants looked nice and sturdy about 4/5 inches tall so I decided to take the milk bottles off. Went down to the front of the plot to plants spuds and when I came back found the birds had ripped the BBs all out. They didnt eat them, just left the tops lying. Crows are everywhere right now and seem to be bolder than usual, foraging closer and not being frightened.

Mine are around 2ft right now hence why they're out cos my kitchen was starting to get too small LOL!

though my hubby made a mini surround for them to protect them from the wind whilst they're still quite small so i wonder if something is sitting on there and having a chomp, might just lay sometime on top to stop critters nibbling see if that works!
