Title: Cuttings rooted in water
Post by: Garden Manager on November 15, 2004, 17:33:39
I have just managed to get some Sedum Spectabile to roor in a jar of water. The have produces roots and new basal shoots. I was wondering what was best to do with them now. They will need potting up at some stage, but when and in what please. I have never 'struck' cuttings in water and i have read that water struck cutings can be a bit tricky transfering to a solid growing medium.

Please help.

I often root cuttings this way - it`s very useful in some circumstances.  Pot them up in multipurpose (spreading the roots out carefully) and stand the pots in a tray with an eighth of an inch or so of water in the bottom and then leave them until the water has all been taken up or has evaporated, by which time the cuttings should have acclimatised.

Ok so nothing complicated then. Good. Just ordinary MP potting compost. Can do.

Thanks Hugh :)
