having been doing lots of work over the last 3 months since getting the lotty I have a list of things uncovered in the mess
2 x spades
1 x digging fork
1 x very large crown of rhubarb - now repositioned and growing great
enough black plastic sheeting to cover 60m sq
enough bricks to build a small house
enough scrap metal to weigh in and prob pay for the plot for the year too
and over the last 2 weeks i thought the weeds were coming up (well they are) but there are several clumps of comfrey sprouting, so I am most impressed!!
and I am loving it!! muck muck muck
Have you found the glass mine yet? :-X
You have to have glass its compulsory, everyone has self germinating glass
oh i forgot to say about the glass factory... i am still digging for it! and there seems to be a timber mill burried under the shed too!
no dog bones yet and i don,t mean what the dog buried, i mean the buried dog type
Wait till you find your predecessor's missing wife.
I have found the usual stuff but also 4 kids action figures that were buried quite deeply in the soil.
I wonder if a little one "hid " them and then forgot they were.
they are the older sytle ones made of that harder plastic so have survived quite well.
no not yet! but i will not hold my breath, having said that have dug over over half of the plot and nothing scary found yet!
do dead bodies ever pop up? like real human ones lol
oh and how much fricking carpet do I keep digging up... it rots well too, horrid stuff!
Here here on the glass front, im rather convinced that the previous plot owner was adding glass convinced it was some kind of soil conditioner.

If they do then the police come & dig your plot over free of charge.
Carpet & plastic sheet which has broken down into millions of tiny pieces are about the worst things I have. As soon as you've finished digging your plot over the stones & bricks will start reproducing rapidly too.
We found.......
a whole shower complete with the tray
a complete bike including bell all buried
a bed which had been burnt
concrete
oil cans
paint cans
old tools
medicine bottles
and not forgetting the buried horse bones/chicken bones
oh and glass ;D
I bet someone's put a corpse into an allotment at some point. If they put it in deep it would be unlikely to be found, and regular digging would soon hide all evidence.

I'd have gotten away with it to if it wasn't for them pesky kids!

When I took over our lotty I started to dig up glass and more glass and even more, when I made enquiries it appears that one previous tenant buried all the glass from a greenhouse, Prick!!, ;D
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D @ Javahart, but back to Mr Brenchley, is there anything we need to know. :o ;D ;D ;D
all ive found is a 2foot lenth of rope :'( as for burying glass what a numbnut :o he must have been
Transferring the well-rotted compost from one of my daleks to the plot I found (right at the bottom) the kitchen scissors I lost a couple of years ago!
I've found some lovely things among the junk, my favourite is a pair of Saxon bone pins. Their identical but found some time apart.
excellent replies... it is amazing what is found!
but what kind of a plonker buries green house glass? I have made several trips to the tip already with bags of the stuff! got to get rid of it before the chucks are bought
maybe I need to get a metal detector next!!
We had quite a few panes of greenhouse glass within a huge pile of compost (7ft high). Ant put the spade through the first pane and I then spent about 2 hours picking the bits out. Unfortunately there wasn't only one pane there! In the same compost heap we also found a ladies shoe. Was a good joke that the previous tennant had buried his wife, especially since he was a copper. We also had a wheelbarrow, a number of trowels, plenty of scafolding poles and lots of general junk on our plot. Luckily most of it was above the soil, although pretty well hidden in brambles.
i found a florin and an old penny on my plot
aswell as glass :)
Not only did the old goblin who owned our house before us bury his greenhouse, he buried quite a lot of an old lorry, the bumpers off a Riley, and last week after 26 years here we dug up a lace machine......
Ooohhh a lace machine? Was it badlly decomposed?
He probably was a viking, they used to be buried with the things they would need in Valhalla, like bows, axes, boats, chariots, horse....
we found what i'm sure would amount to a whole tractor!
but the oddist thing was 4 carrots odd because aparently nothing had been touched on our plot for nearly 2 years
Well we did find an alarm clock as well, would that be to wake him up once he got there?
