I was walking my dogs along the beach today feeling depressed and suddenly saw the first swallow or house martin! Brightened my day immediately. Normally don't see them until 10 or 11 April so this was very early. It looked like it was still on its way and possibly building up steam to get accross to Wales just a few miles away but across more water.
Brilliant - summer is not far away!
Old Bird :)
With snow forecast this week perhaps it will regret its haste.
I saw a house martin last Thursday and thought it was early.
Anyway heard a Cuckoo, :)

it could have been one of the ones that over-winter here, in steel works and turbine halls across the country
We don't get overwintering swallows and housemartins in this neck of the woods. There would, round here, be nothing for them to eat. So it was probably a returnning one and probably still on its way!
No cuckoos yet Mr Smith!
