Title: Avg 9
Post by: pntalbot on March 28, 2010, 12:41:41
Just Uninstalled expired  Norton  360 ( using Norton uninstall tool) and loaded up AVG 9 free Antivirus ,all ok, but looking  for a good  free Firewall --advised the one i have in my Windows 7 is not very good. So looked on Internet-- Zone alarm basic firewall wouldn`t  Load--then Uninstalled, so in desparation tried to load PC Tool free Firewall this also wouldn`t   LOAD. I now have a warning on my Taskbar stating that my Windows 7 is not genuine-- it is-- it was bought from Tesco Superstore completely Sealed, when Win 7 was released. I was thinking of reloading Win 7, but it is the Updated version  from Vista-Win 7 . Will my  Updated version overide this Error problem, if not how can I clear it. Also Can anybody using Win 7 / Free AVG 9 Antivirus, recommend a compatible Free Firewall ( not Win 7)

Why be messed about by software firewalls, get a modem/router with a built in firewall, it's a lot less hassle. I've been using a 3Com Office Connect router for some years, I also got rid of Windows and saved all the hassle.

i agree with Larkshall - hardware firewalls are much better than software ones and most modern routers have them built in as standard.
As far as the non genuine Windows thing..

1. Install and launch MGA Diagnostic Tool- http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012)

2. Click the Continue button.

3. Under the Windows tab, click the Resolve button if it is highlighted.

4. Restart the computer.

or try reactivating it - just type activate from the Start - search programs or files - it should come up.

Buy AVG instead of the free version.....I did and it costs less than you think....some of you pay more per annum for your plots.

Cost me £36 for a year and can be used on 3 PC's or laptops or a mixture of both.
