im thinking of buying an electric car, a G-WIZ,
any one got one?, road tax, insurance ect, any info welcome
regards to all jimtheworzel
kinell! If I had to do that I would give up driving. Your bus pass will take you further and would certainly be cheaper.
Tell me you're joking. They cost £7k. Yes, £7k. I would buy an old Golf, keep the £5.5k difference and save all that energy it takes to make a car. They are not green, they are for idiots.

7k isn't over the top for a new car. I think the main problem is whether you can find a charging point when you need one, although I guess there will be more as/if more people buy the cars.
Why not go a bit greener by getting a more economical regular car? I recently bought a Fiat Panda (got the same reaction from Ace, btw ;)) which has not gone below 53 mpg since I got it (mostly local driving) which compared to the 35 I got out of my Renault Scenic (if I was lucky!) makes me feel better. The tax is only 35 quid, too.
Technically Not a car. ;)

They don't seem to be catching on very well. As far as I can tell they lack acceleration which can cause problems and if they run out of fuel then you will have even more problems.
The new chevrolet SPARK is probably a better investment and if you do not like it, there is a better chance of flogging it to some one else.
This is a very new idea, let others find the "Bugs" (Problems).
I am not very comfortable with the idea of 100mile range then needing to re-charge, that takes considerable time if you are not to shorten battery life. A better system would be to have replacement batteries available (on lease) from swap points (garages), which would be like filling up with fuel. Even with this there would be risk of "breakdown" if the replacement battery was faulty.
It's still early days, so let others find the faults, Unless you wish to be "first in" and have sufficient funds available to pay for a taxi to finish your journey.
While all of you that are in agreement with these tiddy 30mph wee little beasties. Just spare a thought for the tail of traffic that has to trundle along behing you. Some of us are at work an while you are saving a penny on your fuel costs we are wasting pounds of our clients money. Anybody that even harbours thoughts of driving/pedaling a g wizz, panda, micra, matiz and the like should have their driving licence suspended until they have been counselled and are of sound mind.
I have bull bars on the front of my 4X4 truck to nudge the noddy cars out of my way. Also I shall be getting a nice big Jag soon which should be lovely to carve up all the slow coaches and silly old fools that should be sitting down to bingo in Fairlawns.

and drivers of caravans ACE.don't forget the drivers of caravans, speshlly ones with red chandeliers in them ;D
What about the huge Winnabagos, always it seems to be to be driven by cauliflowers with the acorn asleep on the passenger seat, usually she can't even see over the wheel. I hate being stuck behind those and they go in convoy so sometimes there nis a great long line of them.

I know you're playing devil's advocate, Ace, but I'll have you know my Panda regularly does 70mph+ along the A1 when I'm late for work! Maybe we can compare petrol costs when you get your Jag! ;)
My Noddy Matiz can easly drive to the speed limit on any road, and the only time I can't its when one of them gyppovans are trying to pick up speed in the middle lane trying to get past a sinclair C5. ;D ;D ;D

TH eG-Wiz is a purely town car, designed for commuters.... it's acceleration to 25mph or so is pretty brisk, all eelectric motors of that type put out a lot of torque from a standing start so it's generally the least of the problems.... a shortish range isn't a problem if you're only going to be doping 20-30 mieles a day in it, it can sit on charge back at yours overnight.....Be interesting to see what the new Japanese ones are going to be like though, they're the ones with real-world speeds and a decent range..... My new commute (if I chose not to use the bus) between Swindon and Oxford is basically 50 limit all the way excep tfor a couple of short sections of dual carriageway.....
I'd not get a G-Wiz unless I was in London, and if I was in London I'd find it hard to justify driving one cos the public transport there is so much better than most places.....

Yep now the snows gone, the old 4X4 will come in for a load of stick again. Now the nurses can get to the hospital, the doctor can do his rounds. People don't need a quick tow up the hill. Still I can live with it. But I ain't one of them holier than thou types, just get on with my life and stuff the rest of them. I drive fast, I terrorise the timid drivers and I ain't worried about the carnage I am supposed to be leaving behind me with my engine emissions. Another thing that is well know is that 'the Devil looks after his own' I'll be on this earth for a long time yet. The rest of you will have to learn to live with me. Not the other way around.
Well, good on you ACE for getting nurses to hospital & towing doctors up hills. I was at a Surrey PCT meeting where they were discussing the impact of the recent weather on patients - the bean counters felt that as only 1 person had died due to them not being able to get his replacement body parts to him on time, there wasn't a case for a 4wd on their fleet. I guess that means it's up to the general public to lend a hand?
I've got a bike :-\
Come on Ace, if I was a betting lady I would wager you would have to catch this granny before your bars could toss me!!
Oops off topic again..we are gonna get it !!

what was a simple Q and A thread is turning into slanging match between ace and the rest
stay on topic or get locked out !
a pis*d off jimtheworzel
Jim, lol, no need to get worked up. Your thread is staying mainly on topic, with some good responses. There's always going to be a little banter between members :)
I would guess that as nobody has yet given you much in the way of facts about the G-whizz, that we are all as ignorant as you about it! Maybe you'd be better looking at a more specialist site? I'm sure you've already looked here:

As for insurance, why not ring your insurer for a quote, or goon a comparison site?
Do what I do and use your bus pass there is a good service where you live.
