Title: Words jumping
Post by: Jeannine on March 19, 2010, 00:17:28
Well that sounds daft..better description. I start to type a message, goes fine for a while then suddenly the page starts to jump about and I can't see where I am typing, I have to scroll down to find the last bit written and as soon as I start to type is does it again.  Very hard to write anything when the words keep moving around.

Does anyone know why and how I can fix it.

Just as a point of interst it has not happened yet on this message, it seems to happen on longer ones.

Well thank goodness it isn't only happening to me!  I didn't write in about it because I thought there was something wrong with my computer.

Maybe it's a deliberate thing, to stop us writing over-long messages?

(didn't happen on this one because I haven't reached the bottom of the frame. )

I've just looked into this because i thought it was just me.

I'ts caused by Window 7 or IE7/8

To solve the problem yourself click Tools at the top of the screen and select Compatibilty view ( the icon looks like a broken page)

I've just tried it and it works.

P.s don't do it while you have a reply open or it will delete it

Dan

If you want to make it permanent, this is a quote from the SMF board:

QuoteThis is caused by IE8. Your users can fix this by using the compatibility mode built in IE8 (the broken paper looking icon next to the address bar. ) or you can fix this by adding a metaline in your index.template.php telling IE8 to render as IE7 by default.

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

This is timely! Last night I was writing a long PM and just the same thing happened.Never happened before. I've got Vista on the lappy, btw. Gonna give that broken paper icon, which I'd never even noticed before,a good thump right now 8)

Good tip, I thought it was my new pc. I usually write long answers on my note pad, then copy and past to the thread. It does stop it getting lost in space sometimes, but the 'jumping was still annoying when I typed straight into the box.
