A gentleman at my allotment is trying desparately to find out a name of a french bean that he grew once before, but he has forgotten the variety so he can't buy anymore seeds...
His discription of the french bean is " the drawf french bean has the foliage at the bottem and the beans grow on top so they do not get soil splashing onto them and they are easy to pick".
Does anyone know what variety he is talking about?
Thanks for any help you can give, i know it will make him very happy.

Thanks for your replies i'll give the names to my friend and hope one of them jogs his memory.

And Safari, the ones I am trying this year.
I saw my allotment friend yesterday and he asked me to pass on his thanks to you all. The french bean he was referring to was 'maxi' so thank you Ian Pearson, however he is now going to look for the other varieties you mentioned too.
Safari is my absolute favourite bush bean XX Jeanni ne
Safari is great when it grows but is not very tolerant of cold damp conditions. It is also known as Kenya bean and I think it pines for it hot home conditions.
