Title: onion question

Iv'e got my onion sets, red and white....just wondered do i need to net these from the birds ?
or just pop them in .

Just pop them in but make sure that no dry brown bits are sticking of of the soil or the birds will tug at them thinking it is nesting material.

You can cut the top off with scissors, just pinch it to make sure that there is no shoot within.

Pop them in. I push a dibber in halfway, and drop one into the hole. Then I mulch with a couple of inches of dead leaves or grass cuttings.
