Having spent most of yesterday evening and all of last night with mild to not so mild chest pains, my husband took me to hospital this morning and it turns out I have what the docs call a 'possible small blood clot' Grrrrr. I've been sent home with enough syringes to keep the local detox centre going and I have to jab myself with anti-coagulant each evening until I get called back for a more detailed lung scan (now this should be a laugh, I've never jabbed myself with anything before - 'cept a pencil in the eye ...) I've had a bad blood clot on my lungs before so I know the score but it's still a shock to the system and has made me wonder how I let my good health run away from me again for the sake of some good tasting eatsies (don't we all think that when faced with situations like this?!) So I feel fine in myself but the pain in my back and chest hurts like b*gg*ry and I've got to lounge around until further notice. There are worse things in life, right? LOL Looking on the bright side, at least this scan will be local - last time I had to have a lung scan, I had to be driven by ambulance to another hospital 30 miles away because some desperado (in need of one of my syringes no doubt) had nicked the chip from the scanning machine in my local hospital!!!
That's quite scary, but you sound as though you are being very brave about it. Hope all goes well for you when you have the scan.
sounds like youve still kept your sense of humour! hope a swift recovery soon comes your way,and dont worry about the jabs, the first one is the worst. i had to do myself for 5 weeks, for something completely different and was fine (and if i can do it,anyone can!)
x
Sam, really sorry to hear this. Sending you my very best wishes for good results from the scan. Do as you are told and take things easy.
Love Lorna xx
ah, but which part do you want to exchange ;D
I'd like to do this but they'd condemn mine, ;D
hope it gets better quickly :)
Sending you a gentle Hug. I think your very brave, I'm a cringeing coward when it comes to needles. Hope you get better soon.
Taurus
Sam I'm sorry to hear you're not well. Just sit back and enjoy that sofa ;D
Get well soon, it sounds awful and scary....just make sure you do as you're told and rest.
Take care of yourself, hope they call you back very soon!
Oh eck gal, that's no bloody good, get them needles in and get rid of the evil doer ASAP..pretend you are sticking someone else at first, you will get used to it quick.. meantime put bum on seat or better still put back on bed and rest...don't be a martyr on these one, you do exactly as you are told..Grandma said!!!
The quicker you behave the quicker you will get better.
I would offer to swap some of my bits but the outside bits tend to be rather crinkly and the inside bits are rather past their sell by date so not much use to you, although having said that my exhaust system works very well and very often too, works so well the lady next door bangs on the wall when I use it cos it is so loud. Mind you I don't think I want to swap that as talking about bowels and their bits is the only thing folks in this apartment block seem to talk about so I don't want to be left out.
You take care.

Sam I hope you manage to get all fixed and sorted quickly, good luck with the needles, I am sure you will get used to them! Take care xx
Jeannine, love your post! ;D xx
When I first started having to inject myself, I used an ice cube to numb the area first.
These days its in and out without blinking/thinking.
If you find the pain of injecting too much ask your GP for some Emla cream, ita an anaesthetic cream that you place on the skin and let the anaesthetic soak in.
Good Luck.
I am so sorry to hear about your health problems Sam and hope they can make you better soon. :-*
All the best Sammy girl, if you can't face jabbing yourself, I know someone who might give you a helping hand. ;) ;D ;D ;D
I'm sorry to hear that SL, rotten luck. I do hope you start to fell better soon.
Poor you. Sounds like a bit of a bummer. let's hope it's short-term and they manage to fix it all soon.
What rotten luck Sam, I hope things get better quickly for you. You'll be fine with the jabs hun, its like pulling off a plaster........do it slow, it hurts........do it quick, and its done.......painlessly.
Good luck ;)
Thinking of you :)
ooo you chose the wrong time of year to be ill didn't you ? happend to me when I bust my ankle a few years ago, dying to get on with things and just had to sit around
Get well soon

Thinking of you :-*
Sorry to hear about your health problems Sam and hope you are better soon.
And giving yourself that first jab wasn't too bad.
Sinbad
;D
Thanks for all the kind words, very nice and much appreciated.
Today much the same as yesterday, I'm just pootling around.
Had my first go with the syringes (I have to use two each time) and I thought I was doing great until I'd finished the first one and the safety cover wouldn't come down over the needle. The instructions said as soon as it was emptied and withdrawn, the safety cover would automatically spring up. Hmmm. I held the syringe up, had an inspection, pressed the plunger just to double check and promptly squirted myself with what was left inside :-[ ;D
Didn't make the same mistake with the second one ... ;D
Edit: Jeannine, your post made me actually chuckle out loud!
Had my scan last night (ooo, those CT machines are BIG!) and was given the all clear today so yay me!!
yaaay, you..glad you're feeling better :)
Sam! You must have posted your first just about the time my puter blew up and I was offline for a while, then when I came back the thread wasn't up the top so I missed it and have just read through this now. So apols for not contributing before :-[
So very glad that all's resolved OK 8)

Make sure during all this that you are keeping really well hydrated. Drink at least two more pints of water than you would normally drink, please!
look at it like this, the injections are to stop cells clumping together and causing further problems, so they need a bit of a leg up.
But also have a look at whether you really drink enough fluids in the normal day to day. Clots of course can be from "stickey Blood" genetiic issues but can be made worse by a simple lack on proper hydration.
Everything in the body works better with proper (but not excessive) hydration.
When you see all those Beautiful people in NYC jogging with their ever-present water bottles it's basically to stop clots!
Brilliant news Sam. What a relief.
Brilliant ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
