Yesterday I discovered that I had lost my mobile phone. It was not in the house or car. But I had been talking to my daughter down at the allotment. So thought I must have dropped it there. Rang my daughter and asked her to call me once I had got there.
So there I was in the dark (with a torch) waiting for the phone to ring. It was very dark. A bit creepy especially when a owl started hooting. Looked all over could not find it. Saw a big fat mouse its eyes glistening in the torch light.
Then heard the ring. Really pleased. I like the phone - one of the opening type, a bit like star trek. When they ring with normal ones I always forget which button to press. So there I was trying to find where this phone was ringing from, creeping round the allotment in the dark. Still could hear it ringing but not easy to locate. Finally found it. Could have sworn I had not been over that corner!..
Success!! So what is the difference between a phone box and an allotment, well a phone box is warmer for a start. Beam me up Scottie.
LOL glad you found it before it got rained on!
Did the owl get the mouse, I wonder.
I bet your allotment does not smell of wee, or is that only the old fasioned red phone boxes;D
QuoteI bet your allotment does not smell of wee
Actually our local red box is not that bad and we have no facilities on site except a shed and a bucket......
So pleased with this post. I lost the mobile that my OH gave me up the allotment - found in the middle of a raised bed, but only by ringing it. Never been allowed to forget it. I will show him that I am not alone!
P.s: found the mobile case this Feb (a year later) when cutting down raspberry canes
Ive also dropped my phone just outside the allotment. The person who found it went through my phone book and called my mum.
Cue a strange call from my mum,
mum - have you lost your phone
me - no
Mum - have you been down the allotment
me yes
mum - are you sure youve got your phone
me - err perhaps not - goes to find it no I havent got it
mum - well I had a call from a man who found it and has left it by the lottie gate
follows a convo where I was desperately trying to get mum off the phone before somone else found my phone and took a liking to it. being bright oragne its not easily hidden.
I raced round to the lottie to find it virtually in full view of everyone, but at least it was still there
Digeroo's story is the same as my OHs father.
He dropped his phone, but it was in a 10 acre field he had just ploughed, there were 5 people walking round the field, ringing the phone.
They did find it, luckily it had not been ploughed in.
I once lost my potato peeler. Found it a week later in the compost bin along with all the potato peelings. Took it home and washed it. No-one was any the wiser!
Actually the main difference is probably that the phone box is so big you cannot put it down and loose it. And it certainly will not fall down the side of the chair.
The first mobile phone I had was the size of a brick and I did not loose it very often.
Also nice to find out I am not the only person who looses things.

I have a sabatier knife that went into the compost bin and didn't come out until it was emptied... the handle didn't like it but the knife is still fine, but relegated to garden use..

1 spud peeler
3 teaspoons

'Just thinking how useful it is that you can ring a mobile.
Wish you could ring the tv remote and the car keys ;D
and my specs

I'll second that!
I always lose my mobile phone and find it's either turned off or the battery has run out :-[
