Title: What would you expect?
Post by: Sinbad7 on March 01, 2010, 23:42:49
If you booked a holiday where they accepted pets and you paid £15 per week for him/her would you expect that everytime you left the cottage you had to take the dog with you, even if it was just down the road to get some shopping?

I think this is usually the case Sinbad.

We have stayed in cottages and have never left Meggie.  In our caravan, yes, but in someone elses house, no.  Two reasons for this.  Meggie would not like to be left in a strange place and dogs can be unpredictable if left alone in a strange house.

My son had some friends visiting with their alsation.  They left him in our house and walked down to the local.  When they came back half an hour later, their dog had clawed the seats of our almost new, leather settee.  He had never ever done anything like that before.....or so they said.

The man who owned the dog said his uncle knew how to repair leather furniture and would be in touch.  That was 5 years ago and my son hasn't heard from them since.  I managed to get some liquid from the furniture shop which helped to make the scratches a little less visible.

I agree with Pauline on this one. The dog could get very distressed.

I would never leave a dog in a strange place, there are so many things which could happen
just an unfamiliar noise could start it barking which would annoy neighbours.

It's not completely unreasonable.  My girls are good but I wouldn't trust them not to scratch up a bit of carpet in an unfamiliar place.
