Title: Blackcurrant bush
Post by: Rosymacposie on February 28, 2010, 14:20:24
When is the best time to move a blackcurrant bush.  I have pruned it but would like to move it now if it is at all possible.

Do it. You can probably get away with it any time if you're careful, but if you do it now, it won't have started growing yet so it won't have the same need for water as it will in a few weeks' time. Be prepared to keep watering it, all through the season if necessary.

I moved some currant and gooseberry bushes a couple of years ago, probably about April time. Not a brilliant time to do it but they all survived and have fruited well since there move. I echo Roberts advice to keep them well watered throughout the season as they just won't have the root system until they re-establish themselves.

i personally would move it now while it's still the dormant season.
