Title: Marestail or horsetail?

No i havent go either thank god, but can someone explain to me the difference and which one is the invasive garden weed that is so hard to kill.

I may be wrong - but they're both the same?  Equisetum? Stuff the Latin - I'm sure there's a few more descriptive names locally!  :)

It`s the same stuff, but as with so many other weeds, what you call it depends on where you live.  Every district has its own favourite name for its own favourite pest.

OK Thanks Hugh and gavin. I did read/hear somewhere that one was a 'land' weed the other a 'water' (pond etc) one. Perhaps as you say the names are interchangeable depending on where you live. As ever it is the scientific (latin) name that counts.
