In 2005 I grew a fantastic variety of courgette - White Volunteer from

[attachment=1]
It wasn't available the following year so I started growing other varieties.
The other day, I was looking at Real Seeds website and it was there again!
I highly recommend it, but it seems that stock is limited so if you fancy growing a really tasty, productive courgette - get your order in quick!
Follow the seed saving instructions at the bottom of the Realseeds page, and you'll have it every year!
Yes, I might give it a try this year Robert.
they look and sound very similar to some white courgettes I grew last year "Lebanese" from Johnsons. Good size, and very tasty :)
But nice to know Real Seeds have some - why is it that I log onto A4A and then discover things that I didn't know I needed?! ;D
I didn't 'need' any more courgette seeds either, I've already got the ones I'd planned on growing but While Volunteer are something special so I couldn't resist them. :)
that good eh?! ;)
They do look like Lebanese and I agree with 1066 that they are tasty and are the perfect shape for stuffing :D
I will be growing them again this year.
Another " did'nt need any more etc...." but I had to try these. Also ordered Blue Banana.
I sometimes wonder what the various companies think. We discuss something on this forum and they have a run on whatever has been recommended. ;D ;D Might order some myself! ;)
I hadn't thought of stuffing them, I'd been gently frying or grilling them and then adding to salads etc, a lovely gentle flavour is how I'd describe them.
Roll on summer 8)
They did not have it last year to I grew Trieste instead and was not impressed. I like Clarita but unwins have stopped doing it so got them from Marshalls.
If anyone has any white volunteer I am happy to swap some for clarita or any other courgette.

LOL, I wondered this myself.
On their website they say that stock is limited, I bet it's almost non-existent now!
I've just ordered some too! Must remember this year that 8 plants are too many courgettes for one person to deal with..
must admit that all courgettes and marrows taste the same to me. In fact theyI think they are, tasteless taking the taste from what ever they are cooked with.
I have grown several sorts from dark green skins to pale green skins and yellow ones, haven't a clue what they were christened.

When I first grew the WV, I didn't realise how many they would produce and I had about 30 plants of various varieties. I had enough courgettes to feed the entire population of Birmingham. (only a slight exaggeration)
However much I intend not to grow so many this year, I know that when the time comes, I will sow the entire packet. :o

How do you cook them?

I have sent for some W/V seeds and if they arrive I will swap for some clarita.
I am sending the saved seeds from my squash as promised. I will wait now to see if the W/V seeds arrive. I also have some salad seeds which I don't need.
Re sales I think it s called the Delia effect.
So the A4A interpretation of the Delia effect would be the Betty effect ;D
In this case. Absolutely.
I've succumbed to the Betty effect too. Had to order a few other things at the same time to justify the postage ::)
Ohhhhh noooooo, I'm not even a big courgette fan and I'm thinking of ordering some!
I'm trying desperately to resist the urge myself! :o My OH says he'll leave me if I buy any more squash seeds... :-[
And purple heather, there are so many types of squashes (winter, summer) that surely you'll find one you love with a bit of research. Courgettes are just one type of many... :D
Oooh Betty you are awful! I'm a big fan of the pale courgette 'Cavilli', so I was tempted and succumbed too.......checking out though it told me there is a minimum order of £7.99.......no problem, there were quite a few new things I would like to to try, over £10 later.........sigh! ;D
Noooooooo........must.......resist........seeds............
Ooooh dear, I succumbed too, really didn't mean to, bought striata di napoli too :-[ :-[ :-[ well, you see, I like to cook different colour courgettes together as they look nice on the plate - is that a good enough excuse?? And I had to make it up to £8! ;)
Thanks Betty, I think we will enjoy those! :)

You don't know how right you are there :D.... I've seen the envelope (held to gether only by the application of extra tape" full of squash/courgette seeds on its way to you today :D.... I reckon you'll need about 100square metres devoted to squash if you just grow two of everything in the envelope plus the ones I know you have (like the ones you sent in).... that's a lot of cucurbits.....

The Betty effect - ;D ;D ;D
Blimey, what a responsibility - I hope those of you who've ordered them, like them!

Betty needs to ask for commission, in seeds of course ;)

I'm going to have to 'borrow' most of my plot-neighbour's plot again. He already refers to it as "our" plot.....
