I got the call today accepting my application for the job with Rotherham Council. They were very impressed in the interview and as such im one of the lucky few who will be trained up to drive the Ride on Lawnmowers which also means more brass. I start on the 15th and today handed in my notice with my current employer. Thanks eveyone for your kind support, i wonder if they will let me keep some of the grass cuttings for my compost bin.
Great news woody, congratulations and best wishes for your new job. Anne
Nice on Woody, grass cuttings, leaves you'll be in your element. ;D ;D ;D
Congratulations, well done.
Congrats ;D
Congratulations. Just remember that lawnmowers are for grass and not flowerbeds.
Congratulations! Great to hear of someone getting a job rather than losing one these days!
Way to go Woody ;D ;D ;D I just love these posts that keep us on our toes then they have a good ending..well done and I truly hope you love your new job,

Is the job actually with the council, or is it contractors that do the council jobs. If it is the council you will be made, don't worry about the poor wages the pension at the end usually at 55 if they still do it will be worth it. Also sick pay and holidays are usually a lot better than the private sector. Training and protective clothing is free and the certificates are in your name. Get on every course you can, chain saws, herbicides, every motorised machinery course going. It gets you up the ladder a bit quicker. They encourage unions and usually have a good relationship with them. Thats the council way of doing things. You should not need the union for employer/worker relations. But they will stand by you and help out when a member of the public makes an allegation about you. They try to claim for broken windows, dents in their cars, anything they think the council will cough up for.
If the job is with contractors, think hard before you give your other job in. Minimum wage, stood off in the winter, buy your own safety gear. Not a job for life.
Excellent news Woody, pleased for you :)
yaaay woody, go woody, go woody ;D
Well done woody hope job goes well for you.
Great news - good luck in your new job :D
Just caught up with this thread - well done Woody!
Good luck with your new job - I am sure they will let you have more grass than you can cope with!!
I wish you were working down here so I could have extra grass for mulching and compost too!

I start in the morning, i feel like a kid on xmas eve. I let you know how my first day goes.
Ah 1st day at new school! Good luck woody ;D
Good luck my old son. ;D ;D ;D
just spotted this - hope you had a good 1st day woody - thinking about doing something similar myself - need to get out of the rat race as its giving me to much stress - nothing i could think of doing better that gardening for a living - even if it is for the council cutting grass and planting flower beds - certainly wouldnt be throwing all the flowers away at the end of the year like most councils do lol
again congratulations and hope your day went well
Hope you had a great first day Woody.
Sinbad
