Hi all
I have read a few posts on calcified seaweed but cant quite find the exact answer to my situation. I am on clay which is slightly acidic. I have been digging in compost, manure and council black compost for the past 18 months and using green manure in places for the last 2 winters. My question is can I use at the same time as the manure? I know this is not to be done with lime - ie they should be used separately. Also, I currently have some over wintered garlic and red onions in situ - can i use it between them?
Also, I have been told I can use lime on my compost heaps - never done it before but is it a good idea? if so I was thinking of a handful on top or something like that?
Thanks all.
Simon, don't know what you've done to your profile, but I cant send you a p.m. ?
Calcified seaweed is a form of lime, so keep it away from manure.
I put calcified seaweed around my brassicas when planting out. I've still got a bit left but I've heard it's not for sale any more because producing the stuff is unfriendly to the environment. I do sprinkle lime on my compost heap sometimes when I remember. I think it's supposed to help speed up the composting. Not sure how.
thanks all
Tony, I fiddled with my profile earlier - lord knows why but seem to be ok now. I think. Try the PM again and see.
So, Use like lime eh? Could I sprinkle some around my onions/garlic?
