Very Sad.
It is very sad.. but where were the parents or carers? It is impossible to protect children from all the dangers in life but I don't think that banning stuff is necessarily the answer. And even with first class parenting and high awareness there will be accidents.
Don't all blinds now come with instructions to cut the cords to length?
Why ban something because folk choose to ignore the safety warnings on products? ;)
Hilarys fitted my blinds and yes they do hang in a loop and it never occurred to me that a child could throttle themselves with them. The company gave me no warning that I can remember.Bet there are several more like me too.
Where were the Parents? Surely most of us have nipped to the loo or answered the door and left a three year old playing.
These cords have been banned in the USA and I think they should be here .
I saw the funeral of this little chap today from the roadside and and it was truly one of the saddest sights.
Yes Den it's really tragic when a child dies for easily preventable reasons. I know that Ikea products come with massive warnings for children and pets. I'd like that to be statutory. Who knows ? Maybe it is now.

If these posts have made one parent get up from their PC and check the safety of their Blind cords it will have been worthwhile.
Have followed this thread with interest. My son is a blind manufacturer. He has fitted the wand system where customers have been concerned about safety. There are other systems that can help. The following pdf file may be of interest it may add a little to the cost. This is not my sons Company. IMO you can see so many dangers in the home/garden that it is virtually impossible to remove them all.
