Title: MOT
Post by: Chrispy on February 16, 2010, 15:32:40
Any of you nice people a mechanic or and know about car MOTs.
Took our car in today, failed due to both rear wheels binding.

I've had a look at it, and if I move the pads back, and then brake & handbrake the wheels are freer but not perfect.

OK, when the weather is better I can take them apart and give them a good clean, but for now, I would just like to get through the MOT with the minimum of expense.

My question is, is there a test I can do to know if the wheels are free enough to pass the MOT, ie, is there a set torque you apply or something like that?

the rear wheels should rotate freely (on a front-wheel drive vehicle).
'freely' means just that, the wheel should continue to rotate when you apply some initial momentum. ;)

OK, thank you, hopefully the weather is not too bad tomorrow and I can get them sorted without getting too wet through.
