Title: Butter dishes
Post by: Georgie on February 15, 2010, 20:13:10
Help my mind has gone blank.  I want to get one of those butter dishes that keep the contents at an even, spreadable temperature but I can't remember what they are called.  I've tried Google using terms like 'thermal butter dish' but that's not bringing up many choices.  Ideally I'd like one which can be popped in the microwave if the butter is too hard.  Any recommendations welcome.  Thanks.   :)

Think you might want to see if you can get a look at a french style butter dish, think they're called a beurrier breton. I have one I bought in France, it's really good for keeping butter spreadable, outside the fridge. You put water in the base, and the butter in the deep lid, then put the lid on. the evaporation of the water is what keeps it cool. The nearest thing I could find on the web is shown on these links:

Thanks Tricia and Jenny.  I like the look of that and if I lived alone I'd certainly get one.  But I can just see the OH getting in a right mess with it so I think I need something more basic.  I quite like the stainless steel one in Cucina (yes, I know it won't go in the microwave!) so I'll probably go for that unless anyone else comes up with another suggestion.

Thanks Mac.  The £16.99 one looks just like the Cucina one but is considerably cheaper.   :)

Anymore for anymore before I flex my plastic?   ;D
