My OH wears Millets socks in this weather! They are walking/camping socks I guess. I hate my OH's socks! Bleurgh. The penalty for loving a builder is stenchy socks!

Ski socks are generally very good - thick and warm. You could get some from Millets or any outdoors type shop, or if you have a TK Maxx nearby they also sell them. And maybe look at winter boots the like you wear in snowy wintery conditions, they often have very thick soles and fur on the inside. I know my tootsies appreciate them!
You can also get foot warming pads (like the hand warming ones), not sure where they sell those as I haven't tried them, I have seen some in the past and they have a battery that charges them up

Nothing worse than cold feet and hands - brrrr and good luck

Wrap them in foil or put foil under some woolly liners.

When my toes are cold I tend to cosy up with a cocker spaniel! ;) Not much good outdoors mind you.

i have thermal socks ( not just thermal socks ..... M&S thermal socks!) and I sometimes wear 2 pairs e.g when out walking the dog in the snow. Ski socks are good too.

Reviews on amazon not very encouraging either.  No good ones!!!  Pity: seemed like a good idea.  I have a daughter with permanently cold feet.

I wear this kind of sock with a normal one underneath in my wellies. The socks are soooo long they cover my knees too!

Brasher 3 season socks are excellent.....

Thanks Emmy- I'd forgotten about those, I have a pair that are years old and are the most comfortable things ever! Mind you having said that I'm with Ninny on long socks, wear them pretty much all winter (not the same pair  ::) ) but hadn't thought about fisherman's ones so will have to look for some round here  :)

It's all got to be better than what my mum used to make us do - which was wear 2 pairs of socks then stuff a load of straw in our wellies - we always tried to not to have to take our boots off in anyones elses presence.....  :-[

I think the key is to have good strong walking boots.Wellies don't help cold feet, I find. I wear socks with a cotton lining or a thin cotton pair with a thicker pair over. Always put 'em to warm on a rad first ;D I never have cold feet with this combination. I do with fashion boots though ::)

Not for the boys but these are THE most comfortable warm and groovy boots ever. Uggs are hopeless with their mad foam sole-these are the business-proper sole so can withstand rain etc, you don't shuffle along as if you're in your slippers. Soooo warm and I use my old ones in the garden!

When I go fell walking I wear my boots and smartwool socks and never have cold feet, though they are too precious to wear in my wellies.
On Sunday we had a 'Pruning advisor' visit our allotment site and i wore my normal cotton socks with wellie socks over them in my wellies and i lost feeling in my toes after about 15 mins!

I wear two pairs of ordinary socks and find that works better than the thermal ones.

QuoteUggs are hopeless

I have a pair of uggs which I use in the house, but they do not seem to be built for wet and mud.  I used them a lot when the boiler failed a while back.

get some silk socks to wear as "undersocks" underneath thick socks.  They are thin, but increase the heat amazingly.  they did for me in Antarctica and I never once had cold feet

For thick socks, go for denser socks, as the open weave ones tend to let heat out more (unless used as under socks).

Walking style socks from Millets, etc would work as upper socks, but make sure to use layers - layers increase heat.

When I first started with ME I had permanently cold hands & feet. I took ginko biloba & it certainly helped. It helps circulation to the extremities, I also had parasthesia (dead head) at the time & it helped that too.

I've got Raynauds and really suffer with cold feet, not to mention being like the Princess with the pea when it comes to comfort!

Would second Smartwool socks and also Bridgedale. Both are streets ahead of anything else I've tried, the only drawback is £15 a pair but its worth it (if you can afford it) as they dont get sweaty, scratchy or ride down, so long as you get the right size.

Emmy you have the same boots as me! Love Rocket Dog, they are so toasty. Mine are very skiddy though so wouldnt wear them on my sloping plot in the mud!

Re wellies, no sock is going to stop the cold in thin rubber. Just bought some sheepskin insoles, great so long as I keep moving now and again. Alternatively you can buy "thermal" wellies with neoprene soles and fur inside... £70 ish but could have murdered for them recently!
