A large fox came striding towards my patio doors until my dog spotted him/her. Unfortunately the fox turned around and ran. I have never seen one that close before, no more than eight feet away from where I was sitting in the lounge.
I went out to check on the chickens and they were all there. I don't know whether they will be tomorrow. :-\ The fox has been around for a week or so because last weekend someone was out shooting and I saw the fox running really fast across the field and away to safety. I was so pleased that they missed their target. ;D
Yes but will you be so pleased when it has eaten one of your hens and left the rest slaughtered just for the killing frenzy? Hope your run is fox proof and the hens are shut in at night. This is the weather when foxes will be desperate.
We had foxes raiding the dustbins in Cornwall, but they never touched the chickens. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

lets hope the fox misses your ladies then everybody is a winner :o ::)
My dog chases chickens and kills them so I have to have them fenced in.
The chickens are still there but they haven't laid since September so it won't be the end of the world if they get taken. Well, it might be the end of the world for them!! ;D ;D
Could be the fox is putting the hens off laying ::) Our older hens are not laying much yet.
Does anyone know if foxes take rats? If so I'll promote them to most-favoured status...despite the fact that they tore open my fleece cloche from sheer curiosity.
I don't suppose they are quick enough for pigeons? losing a few of them might help even the score too.
They do. They'll grab a pigeon if they can.
