Title: Grandma issues
Post by: Digeroo on February 07, 2010, 10:45:14
On holiday recently I came across quite a number of families wearing muslim dress (hijab) and quite a number of them had grandma in tow.  But what struck me was the poor physical state of the old ladies.  Most had problems walking.

So while I was doing my best to get a Vitamin D fix they were all covered up.  The younger ones wearing full head to ankle swim suits only faces, hands and feet showing.  How do they prevent Vit D deficiency?

You don't say where you were, but if you went there forthe sun,I would think they get enough natural vitamin D from the sun even if they are mostly covered up- and less skin cancer!

It's far more likely to be osteoporosis if they have a low milk diet....  :-\

We talked with a woman doctor who was serving women in Saudia Arabia who said they are for the most part ignorant of very basic health information especially around female issues probably due to the male view of women's status that they don't deserve or need any extra care/education/........you name it and their poor health reflects this. Very sad indeed.
