I was wondering if anyone could tell me wether to dig up my died off potato plants killed by frost and snow or would they re-grow in the spring? I was hoping for a crop before christmas but they all perished before I could cover them up. My new seed potatoes arrived today so may join in the spud challenge if I'm allowed to, being new and all. Any help and advice much appreciated,
Sharon T
Hello Sharon. Any tubers that you have left in the ground could regrow so I would try and dig them all up and then you have no chance of spreading any potential diseases that might be in the left over spuds. If they have not been touched by frost then they will be fine to eat.
Hello Sharon, and a warm welcome to A4A!
Regarding the spud challenge you're more than welcome to join in the fun! :)
Hiya, Sharon, welcome to a4a ;D
Thank you all for the welcome. I'm recovering from flu at the moment so when I get out there I've got around 25 bags and polypots to empty. Oh what a lovely start to the year, but then again it has given me time to look through my seeds and plan ahead.
Looking forward to the spud challenge, although my seed potatoes that arrived today seem to be on the large size ...... never had any this big before! And none of them are chitting ...... not one! I shall just have to talk to them nicely :D
Sharon get well soon! I'm sure that you realise that you need a first early variety, such as Rocket or Swift, for the challenge. Put them in egg boxes in a light, frost-free room and they'll soon be sprouting! :)
Welcome to A4A Sharon.. :)
I ran out of egg boxes after I sorted out my 1st earlys so I resorted to loo rolls cut into 3 then put them in an empty tissue box. Yayy for my snotty nose lol :D
Btw My saved loo rolls are for growing seeds in, I don't have a strange fetish ... honest ....... although .................. ;)
