Title: Bees on allotments - Feb 14th
Post by: Squash64 on February 02, 2010, 17:32:08
On Sunday 14th Feb at 11:00 we will be having a 'Bees on Allotments' talk given by Dr. Adam Bates of B'ham uni and Jim from the Sutton Beekeepers group. After the talk they will answer questions

Birmingham City Council has changed the rules and will now allow bees to be kept on allotments.

If you are close enough to come you would be more than welcome.

I'd love to come down Squash-I'll be there if I can-I'm looking after my baby nephew that weekend but you never know-I might just make it...fingers crossed.

I wish I could, but it's too far. We have recently changed our rules and constitution to allow beekeeping (under certain conditions) but it would be good to be better informed about it. Mind you I could probably organise something similar here. Hope it is a good meeting.

Pity it's Valentine's Day, our favourite Vietnamese restaurant always does a special meal so I can't get out of it!

So after ten years my bees really are legal!

Thanks grawrc.  We have a fenced-off area that we think would be suitable. We are hoping that someone from the beekeepers group will put up and care for a hive there. I'll let you know how it goes.

Robert, it never occurred to me that it was Valentine's Day when I arranged it, I suppose I'm not very romantic.  :)
Shame you can't come, we could have learned a lot from you.  Never mind, maybe another time?

Sounds very interesting I have something on that weekend (not romantic) so I will see if I can change it round.  I have to go to Evesham so perhaps I can combine the two.

The meeting is at 11 in the morning.

There has been talk of getting some bees for our allotments.

We'd have loved to come Betty but we are babysitting for our friends in Pudsey so they can have a "Spa" day...  :-*

That's a shame, but maybe see you at the Plant Sale & Cream Tea, or Summer Fayre?
(enjoy your babysitting!)

We had our 'Bees on Allotments' meeting this morning. I thought maybe 20 people would come, but there were at least 60!

Dr Adam Bates gave us a fascinating talk about bees and their habitat and Jim from the Sutton Beekeepers answered questions.

Everyone seemed to enjoy it and we had lots of lovely comments afterwards.
