Title: AVG & Zone Alarm
Post by: pntalbot on January 31, 2010, 14:48:25
My  Norton 360 ver 3,  has nearly  run out and  i am  thinking  of  loading FREE  AVG 9 antivirus & Zone Alarm  Firewall, my OS is  Windows 7. Are  there any drawbacks do you think ? ? Or  should  I renew  Norton 360 ? ?

AVG is fine - seems to have got over some speed related issues.  It's not very customisable but it's free and does a good job.

I just paid for the new version of AVG,less than £50 for the year...better deal if you sign up for longer, and it covers 3 pc's.

Another vote for (free) AVG here. Do you need zone alarm? I used to use it, did find it slowed things at times, and now I thought Windows had built in firewalls? I'm sure proper computer people will correct me if I'm wrong  ;D

We had problems with zone alarm. It zapped everything so we got rid of it in the end. AVG seems to work well (and it's free).

Windows does have it's own firewall.
Also, if your PC broardband is via a hub rather than just a modem, then the hub will also have a firewall.

Best to check it out, not all modem/routers have a firewall.

I use Avira for my anti virus which is fine but have used AVG and it was fine also.
Just a thought though.
If you use internet banking the bank often offer security software for free. Try there.
