Title: Scottish NEW potatoes
Post by: realfood on January 29, 2010, 20:19:43
I have seen Scottish New Potatoes from Aberdeenshire, one of the coldest parts of Scotland, for sale!! How do they do it?
Maybe they plant them in July and harvest in October and keep them in cold storage till they go on sale. Any other ideas?

I wonder if they have been under fleece or straw over the winter and are just now being harvested?

Today, I bought Scottish baby Charlotte potatoes in Lidl's for 75p for 1 Kg. They came from farms in Angus or Ross shire and had them for my tea. I suspect that they have been in cold storage from last year, as they look and taste like new potatoes.
PS. Lidl had rolls of bubblewrap for sale.
