Lots of poison, replaced regularly. Fen traps will also work.

another way is to cut off their food suply, then disturb the nesting sites, they'll go elsewhere. it's better than creating a 'rat-shaped hole' in the world, guess what will fill the hole that you created !!  ;)

They don't seem to like cat pepper dust down the hole.

A lady on our site had worked with pest control. She didn't reckon much on poison - basically, too much money and too many rats - but went for disturbance. Poke something like a metal pole into the compost heap on a regular basis; they don't like it and go elsewhere.

Stick an extended exhaust pipe from a chainsaw down the holes and when they start to bolt whack them, great fun :)

Hi Telbert, Hi all :)

I find wooden based spring traps a cheap and efficient way of killing them in my sheds but the comments about disturbing the habitat and their runs sound good for outdoor areas.

Best of luck, and don`t forget to wash your hands and all crops lots, don`t browse off your plot or alllow others to. You don`t know where they`ve pee`d.
