Title: Hard times - an uplifting tale
Post by: Georgie on January 10, 2010, 21:25:33
I just have to share this as it brought a tear to my eye.

I've recently joined my local Freegle group as I'm determined to de-clutter this year.  As I was checking that my offered items had been posted I came across a wanted ad for some carpet tiles or carpet offcuts 'for our baby to crawl on'.  I had a couple of offcuts that I thought might do the trick so I responded.  It turned out the message had been posted on behalf of the couple by a friend (as the couple concerned didn't have a computer).  The friend came today to collect and turned out to be a sprightly older woman who I'd guess was in her late sixties/early seventies.  She took a roll under each arm and marched off to her car with a cheery thanks and later this evening I got an email with the following message:

"Delivered the carpet this afternoon, and it was a great success.  They have cut the longer bit in to 2 sections and put all 3 alongside each other and mum and dad can now play on it with baby, it is lovely and thick and warm. They were very appreciative."

Call me an old softy if you like but I've still got a lump in my throat.

I've had some lovely thank yous for the stuff I've given away in the past but it was the fact this older woman was helping out a clearly needy younger couple and that they, in turn, were happy with something that to me was 'just clutter' that got to me.
