Title: Autumn in Vermont
Post by: Mrs Ava on October 31, 2004, 22:48:22
Couple of views taken by John Miller in Vermont.

(http://img66.exs.cx/img66/3935/upe91B0.jpg) Connecticut River Valley, Westminster

(http://img56.exs.cx/img56/2803/upe8216.jpg) Pleasant Valley Road, Saxtons River.  Those are horses by the way, not dogs.

Stunning pics John!

Ours have come back Tim. In the late 19th Century, thanks to a misguided attempt to establish a sheep industry here, Vermont was almost entirely deforested. Given that the soil here is typically that found under trees, thin, with the nutrition being a delicate balance between addition and subtraction, it was doomed to be short lived. Then the trees came back so that Vermont is now 85% wooded. The only part that isn't is the valley around Lake Champlain and the head waters of the Hudson River (it opens out into the fabulous muck soils of the Province of Quebec as one heads North towards Montreal).
Thanks EJ. Any chance of the mare's-tail one?

Fabulous, John.  The size the horses appear really highlights the perspective.  Beautiful "misty" quality too - like very early morning, can almost breathe the air...

If I remember correctly it was early afternoon. What you percieve as a  "beautiful misty quality" we called, and complained about, an extremely persistent (the whole two weeks of peak foliage) cloud cover! One persons romance is someone elses seasonal affect disorder?

John, you will have to send it to me again as I didn't receive it.  My inbox was full after a week away and I don't think hotmail keep them to resend at a later date.
