Unbelievable!!
We have nearly a foot of snow that fell last night and it is now snowing again. The college where I work is shut due to the weather and many of the A level students should be starting exams today. The motorway where I would have to get to work was shut, and is now open at 1 lane with huge tailbacks (like 3 hours). This is due to 3 lorries jackknifing over the bridge earlier this morning.
I dread to think what it is actually like in North Manchester where I work as they had 8 inches on Saturday when we had about 1cm in South Manchester.
We haven't had weather like this for decades.
It's OK here (Derby) at the moment... but I'm supposed to be taking eldest back to York today and I'm off to a course in B'ham tomorrow... currently it is bad around Sheffield and is supposed to be bad in B'ham today/tomorrow... :-X
On the North East coast (around Durham) we have had thick snow since before christmas. Have had to walk down to the lotty several times as the snow is too thick to drive- had to give chicks fresh water every day as thiers was frozen. What made it worse we had a burst main at the allotment so have been carrying water every day on me back to give them. This is the first christmas for years when I have not had to make a new years reso to lose weight!
Heck that sounds so bad.
Well done for making sure that the chickens are OK :)
Good old fasioned winter, what has happened to globel warming,
Take care everyone hope this weather won;t last to long.
June.
,
great effort sam,am sure your chooks appreaciated it!
ive just been sent home from college, was the only one in my class to turn in,including the tutor. saying that i do live the nearest. wass hoping to get to to the lottie for a free day with OH,he was going up to meet the skip wagon, but they cant even get there in their big truck, looks like enforced homework/decoration taking down day then! liverpool appears to be very badly affected!
Glad you got to your chickens okay!
Here are some pics I took at 9am this morning.

There's at least 6 inches in Manchester, I'm just near STockport, and the snow is still falling. We are all off in this house, husband can't work in this weather, and I daren't do the journey in my car, it's just not suitable.
Mum and dads coming over today flying from Liverpool to Malaga due in at 2.35pm I'm supposed to be picking them up but I doubt if they'll get here today! Phoned them 10 mins ago and they were in a snowy traffic jam for 45 mins! No flying out of Liverpool or Manchester so far :(
aaww biscombe,i do hope they get there very soon,if not today, the traffic out to the airport does sound bad here. i need to get hubbie to the hosp tmrw by 7.30 tmrw for an op,praying the snow goes away for you and me!
Do take care those of you who've had unusually high amounts of snow fall.
We've got nothing in the South East at present but it is forecast for later this evening and most of tomorrow. I do love the snow but I guess that's because usually we only have it lying on the ground for 4-5 days maximum down here. I phoned my sister a while ago as she works in one of the hangars at Stansted Airport and apparently it's going to be quite heavy there later and visibility down to 'poor' so I said she should leave work early - before it all kicks off as last time it took her over three hours to drive 12 miles!
Anyway, wrap up warm and keeps spares of things in the car should you have to go out! :)
Wow!
Super pics, we've just got a hard frost down here in Sussex but we just might get a little snow tomorrow.
Hope everythings ok for you tomorrow elvis2003, not too serious I hope
No snow here on the edge of Salisbury Plain but freezing cold. brrrrrrr.
Snow is forecast overnight and I feel sorry for my OH who started his new job today. He had to drive 14 miles to the station then get a train up to London. No problems today but tomorrow he has to be in really early to meet his new "big" boss. With over 8 inches of snow due and Grateley Station being out in the sticks, I wonder if he will manage to get to the station let alone to the office in London. :-\
some shots of the garden today here in wigan and it's still snowing, still, can get the decs and tree down ;D
and it makes the garden look really tidy ;D
Looks great on the trees Manics. Our trees are reaching terminal weight of snow and are dropping it onto big piles in the garden.
My huge pyracantha (against the house wall) has collapsed under the weight of snow. I can't get into the shed to get some twine and wire to put it up again and, even if I could, I can't get to the pyracantha for the deep snow! ::) ::) ::)
Yesterday it took over an hour to clear and dig out my car and I was soaked to my knees by the time I finished.
Not sure my fig tree will like this!
Can remember doing that sort of thing in my younger days Anne but we have not had snow that severe for years.
Snow on the cyprus
Nothing this bad since 1963 in my memory and that was the worst since 1947 when the snow started on 15 th January and they had it until the middle of March (according to my late mother in law) Who used to remind every one often because she had a baby that on the day it started.
Seems that the US have got it bad too even in places where they never see much snow and they always send us their bad weather.
I want snow !!!!!!! Sulking on the South Coast......

If in doubt give the hospital a call as well to check it's all still on - and wishing your OH well
Around 3"-4" has fallen this morning here in West Yorkshire.
Not a lot compared to some but enough to keep me indoors.
I didn't even venture out to take these pictures this lunch time.
I just stood in the doorway and clicked a few.
The back garden;
