Just got my copy of grow your own and have got the free tomato seeds.
The varieties are 'Costoluto Fiorentino', 'Roma VF' and 'Garden Pearl'.
What are these varieties like? Are they worth the space in the greenhouse? I have a 10x8 greenhouse, but space is limited so don't want to grow them if they are naff.
The first is an Italian Beef steak that I would grow in the Greenhouse, the second an outdoor bush (paste) tomato and the third I would grow outside in baskets or tubs.... :)
I am tempted by the first one Saddad. What do they taste like though?
I grew Garden Pearl in 2009 outside in flower buckets and hanging baskets, very prolific, would recommend and will be growing again this year.
Have grown all three outdoors and they did well here in the sunny south. And they all taste good, Garden pearl is small and an odd darkish pink colour but lovely to pop in your mouth. Roma is fine, but really only for cooking, sauces, drying and so on, the skins tender to be harder on these. Costoluto Fiorentino is a good tasting one IMHO, and would be the one I'd choose as it can be used in salads and fries up nicely too.
It's one I've grown on but not harvested Sparkly.... always gone in the sales. ::)
I think I may give them a try then, except for the Roma :)
