Just heard it on the news. Very sad- he always made me laugh on GQT- very down to earth.

Such sad news.

very sad news indeed. a great panelist on GQT, very knowledgeable and likeable chap, R I P :(
I'm sorry to hear this. He was knowledgeable and amusing, I loved the way he managed to talk with a twinkle in his eye. RIP.
He'll definitely be missed in this household.
He was always good for a laugh, but at the same time informative.

I noticed someone on Wiki was quick off the mark
Tribute on "Last word" at 4;00 today (that was quick!)
That's a shame. I enjoyed his wit.
it's very sad............ RIP John / shades x
He seemed such a lovely man and always made me laugh on GQT. They said on Last Word that he was 65, which is no age. RIP John.

That's so sad, i'll miss his wit on GQT, always made me laugh :'(
Sad news GQT will not be the same a true gentleman gardener.
Oh no! what a shock! GQT won't be the same J.I.P John
I read about this in the Daily Mail. I was rather shocked and very saddened by it. I too always enjoyed listening to John on GQT - I am a regular listener, but aways found the editions when John was on more entertaining somehow. I suppose it was his 'dry' sense of humor and way of talking about plants and gardening that often made me smile (and occasionally laugh out loud).. I will certainly miss him for that alone. :'(
I can also remember seeing John presenting the short lived Irish version of Beechgrove, called 'The Greenmount Garden'.
The report in the Daily Mail said John was 66. Just 2 years older than my Dad. Not a happy thought.
The Daily Telegraph gardening section had a half page article by John about his New Year resolutions. It was very poignant reading of plans he'd made that will never be fulfilled.
Obituary in yesterday's Guardian.http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguardian/2010/jan/03/john-cushnie-obituary (http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguardian/2010/jan/03/john-cushnie-obituary)
Only been listening since about august bit i will certainly miss his sense of humour, cant see how anyone will ever be able to fill hjis boots or wellies.
w00dy
I will miss his voice but:
QuoteJohn hated vegetables and turned his dislike of brassicas into an art form. He would wince if the smallest green leaf should have the temerity to invade his post-recording plate of steak and chips.
may well explain his youth and the cause of his death.
